Labcyte Inc. was formed in October of 2003 from the merger of Labcyte LLC and Picoliter Inc., bringing together expertise in acoustic droplet ejection, liquid handling instrumentation, laboratory consumables, and integrated engineering services for life sciences laboratory applications. Initially funded by its founders, the company raised $5.1 million in Series A from Delphi Ventures and Alloy Ventures in late 2000. In 2002, a $22M Series B round was co-led by Abingworth and the Sprout Group. In 2005, a $21M Series C round was led by Cross Atlantic Partners and included new investors Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management LLC and the Bay Area Equity Fund.
