The Product Specialist will be responsible for supporting the pre- and post-sales processes to position our automation offering and convert customer requirements into system proposals and test plans. In this role, the automation specialist will serve as the expert on product and business capabilities as well as the main line of communication between internal product teams, account managers, and customers. As the Product Specialist, you will work closely with the Automation Product Manager to prioritize development efforts to both grow the business and sustain the current install base. To guide internal teams, you will leverage your experience working with laboratory automation products and develop new ideas from interactions in the market and with customers. To be successful, you must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; an ability to focus on the complete lifecycle of project, and the flexibility to establish productive interactions with a diverse group of functional representatives. You must enjoy spending time in the market and with our field representatives to understand the challenges our users face as well as working with our technical teams to build innovative solutions.
Work with field applications scientists and the sales team to translate customer workflows into formal requirements.
Work with a product support team to complete evaluations of customer requirements and formal requests for proposals (RFPs).
Respond to requests from the product support team to clarify customer requirements, establish relationships with 3rd-party vendors and communicate guidance to field teams and users.
Develop software protocols to demonstrate software features, support system configuration recommendations and respond to system performance questions.
Support the sales team by reviewing system quotes for accuracy, leading design reviews and composing proposal documents or presentations that highlight system layout, specifications, capacity, and throughput analysis
Interact with customers and service engineers to improved customer satisfaction with installations, service cases and technical support.
Lead the transition of project specifications to in-house Engineers and Project Managers to ensure a smooth and accurate deployment of systems from the pre-sales phase to factory acceptance (FAT).
Perform software demonstrations, webinars and participate in conferences with the sales or marketing team to support business development.
Maintain up to date knowledge of industry applications and/or device trends by attending webinars, conferences, or visiting customers.
Interact with the Product Management team to provide input on product development projects, roadmap planning and field training.
Education, Skills, Experience, and Requirements
BS, MS or PhD degree in Science, Software Engineering or Engineering.
3 – 5 years of experience with automated laboratory systems and devices in a high throughput screening, compound management, drug discovery, or genomics research setting.
Experience with scheduling software for automated laboratory systems.
Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and customer relationship building skills.
Excellent time management, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Up to 40% travel (on average) required to customer and non-customer sites in North America, Asia and Europe.
Knowledge of Jira, XML, SQL and any .NET Language is a plus
