Sunnyvale, CA, July 1, 2004– Labcyte Inc. announced today that the Echo 550 Compound Reformatter has been selected by an independent panel and the editors of R&D Magazine as one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace over the past year.

The Echo 550 performs direct microplate-to-microplate transfers of droplets down to 5 nanoliters using a new "touchless" transfer technology based on focused acoustic energy.  Monitoring of acoustic energy reflected from well plate fluids enables the Echo 550 to measure DMSO hydration and determine the fluid volumes of each well.  The system is designed for the replication and reformatting of compound libraries, as well as plate compression or expansion from 96-, 384- and 1536-well microplates.

“We are extremely happy and justifiably proud that the Echo 550 was chosen for such an award,” said Elaine J. Heron, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of Labcyte Inc., “Our dedicated development team brought together expertise from diverse fields to turn our ideas into products.  We expect the Echo 550 to be the first of a large number of related products that will take advantage of our proprietary position with acoustic liquid handling.”
